Seadogs Lead ‘Stand with Science’ Health Drive in Awka

Seadogs Lead ‘Stand with Science’ Health Drive in Awka

The Anambra chapter of the National Association of Seadogs marked World Health Day with a grassroots campaign in Awka. Under the theme “Together for Health. Stand with Science,” volunteers shared life-saving tips on diet, check-ups and stress management through the Honduras Deck Awareness initiative. Speakers included Chief Michael Nweke, who highlighted the group’s commitment to public education, and Professor Nnaemeka Abamara, who urged regular mental health care and balanced meals. Dr Collins Alutu emphasized science-based decisions and warned against self-medication, while Dr Boniface Okpala explained how IVF technology can help families overcome fertility challenges. Participants left inspired to share their new knowledge with friends and relatives. Organisers stressed that good health depends on both personal choices and stronger healthcare systems. By standing with science and working together, they say, Nigerian communities can build healthier futures.

Did they outline specific steps for residents to adopt healthier eating, regular check-ups, or stress relief after the drive?

I dey feel you, this drive fit push people to chop clean, book up clinic visits, and unwind small everyday.

I noticed they relied heavily on the Honduras Deck to explain stress management and diet tips, which seems a bit too generic for the community's needs.

I'm not convinced a single day campaign can truly change health behaviours without regular follow-up, though it's a start.

Pair such drives with local health clinics and schedule monthly check-up camps so residents can apply those science-backed tips immediately.
