1 / 4

At the Faculty of Social Sciences end-of-year review at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Awka, undergraduates voted Dr Adaobi Okeke as the best Mass Communication lecturer. She was followed by Comrade Emeka Odogwu (PhD) and Samuel Idowu Ogunbadejo. Dean Prof Michael Ezenwa thanked staff for their support and outlined initiatives to boost research visibility and teaching quality. He highlighted partnerships with the Legal Aid Council and PRAWA to launch a paralegal programme, and announced plans for Social Work and Criminology courses. Special awards were presented to Rev Fr Prof Jude Ezeokana for long service, alumnus Chief Moses Enujiugha as a faculty ambassador, and Engr Ikechukwu Okafor as the best friend of the faculty. Dr Ego Obi delivered a health lecture and St Cecilia Choir provided musical performances. The event closed with a vote of thanks from co-chair Prof Uju Ezenekwe, who praised organisers and donors for making the celebration possible.

Honestly, I doubt Dr Okeke's methods were that unique; plenty of lecturers showed equal passion this year.

It's interesting undergraduates ranked three names, but I wonder if the voting process captured all student voices fairly.

I'm not convinced such rankings reflect teaching quality alone; student popularity can skew results in these end-of-year votes.

Maybe the faculty should publish detailed feedback criteria so future reviews become more transparent and helpful to all lecturers.
