FMC Daura Suspends Doctor After Delayed Emergency Response Led to Patient’s Death
Federal Medical Centre Daura has suspended an on-call doctor for three months after failing to respond promptly to an emergency case. Medical Director Umar Farouk said the patient was referred from the Armed Forces Reference Hospital on April 23 and admitted through the Accident and Emergency unit before being moved to ICU. When the doctor on duty did not attend to the critical patient, Farouk arrived at 4 a.m., resuscitated and stabilised her. The hospital’s SERVICOM unit investigated the delay and recommended disciplinary action. The doctor concerned remains suspended pending the outcome of further inquiries. The patient was later transferred to Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina but died upon arrival. The family’s legal representatives have issued a 14-day ultimatum for the conclusion of investigations. The hospital says it is committed to accountability and will sanction any staff found culpable.
