Abia Political Tension: Lawyer Alleges Governor Otti Orchestrates Harassment and Rights Violations
Prominent human rights lawyer Eze Chikamnayo has filed a petition accusing Governor Alex Otti of deploying state apparatus and media proxies to intimidate and persecute former leaders, including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. Chikamnayo describes the alleged campaign as a “petty campaign of calumny” that followed a gathering of political elders at former Governor Theodore Orji’s residence. He claims government-linked figures are circulating defamatory content to silence critical voices. Citing constitutional protections for personal liberty, expression and peaceful assembly, the petition warns that these actions could erode democratic norms in Abia State. Chikamnayo is calling on the governor to halt all forms of persecution and to ensure transparent accountability for public funds.
