Should Guests Wash Their Plates? Debating Gender Roles in the Kitchen
A friend’s in-law stayed over for dinner, breakfast and lunch. Each time he ate, he dropped his plate in the sink despite there being no other dirty dishes. My friend felt he should have washed his plate or at least asked to help, especially since they don’t have a maid. Her husband disagreed, saying it’s Nigerian culture for men and guests not to clean up. I also thought leaving the plates was rude and sparked a big argument between them.
