PSG Beat Liverpool 2-0 in Paris to Take Commanding Champions League Lead

PSG Beat Liverpool 2-0 in Paris to Take Commanding Champions League Lead — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Liverpool returned from the FA Cup exit with hopes of turning their season around in Paris. However, a deflected shot from Desire Doue gave PSG the lead after just 10 minutes. The hosts doubled their advantage in the second half as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia ran clear, rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home. Both sides created few chances after the break. PSG’s victory puts them in a strong position ahead of the return leg at Anfield, leaving Liverpool with it all to do if they are to reach the semi-finals.

That deflected first goal came so early. How big a factor was it in PSG taking control over Liverpool?

Do you see that deflected opener as the main momentum shift, or were other factors more crucial?

I see your point, but PSG's pressure and tactical discipline shaped the game more than one deflected goal.

PSG looked sharp on the counter once they led, but I'm not entirely convinced Liverpool showed their true quality in Paris.

Maybe PSG's victory owes more to that fortunate deflection than genuine dominance. Liverpool still seem capable of turning this tie around.

Liverpool need to tighten midfield control and press higher early in the next leg if they hope to neutralize PSG's quick transitions.
