Stereotypes of Traders Who Call Themselves “Blessed”
Have you ever met traders who name their shops Blessed Obyno, Blessed Omemma or Blessed Chucks? They often deal in electronics, phone accessories, clothing and building materials. Many of them move fast in relationships, marrying just weeks after meeting someone new and sometimes juggling multiple “umu boi.” They love uniform colours and belong to one or two social clubs. You’ll find them more at local joints like Nwanyi Awka-Etiti or Nwanyi Nnewi for isi ewu, azu ndu and nkwobi, often with a green bottle on the side. They call their wives Onye Bem, Mummy or Mama Ifeanyi, while their wives answer them as Oga’m, Dim, Daddy or Papa Ogechukwu. They balance one foot in Adoration and another in the shrine. They avoid gyms but never skip a Coldstone, Chicken Republic or cinema outing—usually at the insistence of their wife, side chick or children. Is this stereotype spot on or just for laughs?
