NIS Flags Fraudulent Passport Payment Claims, Urges Use of Official Portal

NIS Flags Fraudulent Passport Payment Claims, Urges Use of Official Portal

The Nigeria Immigration Service has warned citizens to avoid using unofficial channels for passport payments. It clarified that all applications must be processed through its secure, government-approved portal. The Service rejected reports linking a religious organisation to its payment process as inaccurate and misleading. It confirmed it has not authorised any third party to act as an intermediary. Investigations are under way to trace the source of the false claims. The NIS urged applicants to use only licensed payment providers listed on its platform and warned that payments through unauthorised agents are at their own risk. For assistance, the public is advised to reach out via the Service’s verified social media handles or official contact centres.

Totally agree, peek at the URL bar for the official gov domain before you hit pay.

It seems those fraudsters exploit confusion around payment channels by linking false endorsements to religious groups.

I'm not convinced that banning unofficial channels alone will stop scammers; people can still fall prey to clever phishing emails.

Make sure say you dey stick to the government-approved portal, double-check URLs, and keep payment receipts for proof.
