I Was Scammed ₦2,000 While Searching for a Remote Job

I was scammed while trying to find a remote job. Someone asked me to pay ₦5,000 to be added to an online job platform. After I negotiated, he accepted ₦2,000. I paid the money, but he blocked me immediately afterwards. Thankfully, the amount was not too high, but it is frustrating because I was only trying to find honest work and earn a living. People should be careful of anyone requesting payment before offering access to job opportunities.

Did the person provide any verifiable details about the platform before asking for payment, or was the fee presented as the only requirement?

Exactly, payment requests without clear, checkable platform details should raise serious eyebrows.

It is frustrating that people targeting job seekers can make even a small payment feel urgent, then disappear once they receive it.

Negotiating the amount reduced the loss, but a legitimate job platform should not need a random upfront payment just to add someone.

For future searches, verify the platform independently and avoid paying access fees before you can confirm who runs it and what it offers.
