Uganda Begins 42-Day Countdown to Be Declared Ebola-Free

Uganda Begins 42-Day Countdown to Be Declared Ebola-Free

Uganda has started the World Health Organization’s 42-day waiting period after discharging its last Ebola patient from Mulago National Referral Hospital. The countdown only ends if no new cases emerge during that time. The recent outbreak recorded 20 confirmed cases, including five local infections and 15 imported. Seventeen patients recovered and two died. Government spokesperson Alan Kasujja confirmed the timer began when the final patient left isolation on July 16. Meanwhile, a separate Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo remains active. Health authorities there have reported over 2,000 confirmed cases and more than 750 deaths.

Even after discharging the last patient, a single undetected case could still restart an outbreak far from the hospital.

I'm not convinced 42 days is enough; other outbreaks have flared up well after similar waiting periods ended.

For a safe end to the countdown, no wahala if dem test all contacts regularly and keep clear records throughout.
