Why Digital Skills Alone Don’t Guarantee Income for Nigerians
I’ve noticed many Nigerians complete digital skills courses but end up back in 9-to-5 jobs. The problem isn’t talent. It’s how they position their skills. Most treat tools like Canva or copywriting as certificates to collect, not as solutions to sell. They never clarify the one question that drives clients: “What problem do you solve, for whom, and why you?” Common mistakes: 1. Generic marketing – “I do graphic design” doesn’t spark interest. A targeted offer does. 2. Hiding behind perfection – visibility beats perfection every time. 3. Mistaking platform activity for real business – posting isn’t the same as building a client pipeline. Successful freelancers niche down, document their work to build trust, and use their skills to showcase results. What’s the biggest barrier you’ve seen for Nigerians trying to monetize digital skills? Lack of clients, pricing issues, confidence, or something else? Let’s discuss.
