Heavy Flooding in Sango-Ota Forces JAMB Candidates to Wade Through Knee-Deep Water

On Thursday, hundreds of UTME candidates in Sango-Ota were stranded by severe flooding after an early morning downpour. Floodwaters surged across the busy Sango-Abeokuta road and blocked both lanes. Many candidates had to leave their vehicles and walk through knee-deep water to reach CBT centres scheduled for 9 a.m. Some flood levels rose as high as their thighs, causing panic and fears of missing the crucial exam. One candidate nearly slipped near the First Bank section of the Sango-Ota bridge. Another held her sandals and exam materials above her head as she trekked under the bridge to stay dry. The downpour also trapped traders and commuters from Abeokuta and Ifo in gridlock. Frustrated residents say recurring floods halt commerce, inundate shops and homes, and call for lasting government solutions.

Curious to know: did any candidates find alternative routes to avoid the flood at Sango-Ota on exam day?

I dey think so too—sure some candidates must've found higher ground or side roads to avoid knee-deep water.

I doubt anyone sidestepped that flood easily, the water covered most paths around Sango-Ota that day.

It's surprising there were no prior warnings, given how prone Sango-Abeokuta road is to flooding each rainy season.

I'm not convinced the organizers had full control, but candidates could've checked weather alerts before heading out.

Future candidates should carry waterproof sleeves for exam materials and monitor local news for flooding updates before departure.
