Nigeria Threatens Action Against South African Companies Amid Xenophobia Crisis
The Federal Government has warned of possible sanctions against South African firms in Nigeria after renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa. Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu said companies like MTN, MultiChoice, Stanbic Bank and others may face licence reviews if the harassment of Nigerians continues. She noted that diplomatic channels and a constitutionally backed legislative process are in motion. South Africa’s decision to discard an early-warning pact with Nigeria has heightened concerns. The National Assembly also condemned the attacks and urged immediate protective measures for Nigerians living abroad.
