Javier Mascherano Quits as Inter Miami Coach Amid Stuttering Title Defence
Javier Mascherano has stepped down as head coach of Inter Miami, ending his spell with the reigning MLS Cup champions. He cited personal reasons for his departure and thanked the club, staff, and players for their support. The former Argentina star took charge ahead of the 2025 season and led Miami to their first MLS Cup triumph. Despite that success, the team’s title defence has faltered. They currently sit third in the Eastern Conference and were knocked out of the Concacaf Champions Cup by Nashville SC. Sporting director Guillermo Hoyos will take over on an interim basis while Alberto Marrero fills the sporting director role. The Herons now aim to steady their season ahead of the next fixture against Colorado Rapids.
