Another Grid Collapse Plunges Enugu into Darkness as Residents Count Losses

Another Grid Collapse Plunges Enugu into Darkness as Residents Count Losses — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Enugu metropolis has been thrown into darkness after yet another collapse of the national electricity grid. For weeks, residents have endured erratic or no power supply, forcing families and small businesses to resort to costly alternatives or simply halt operations. At Ogbete Main Market, charcoal seller Chinelo Nwankwo has abandoned her refrigerator and cannot afford gas for cooking. In Eugeneoba, perishables spoil daily, and welders sit idle without light to work. Provision seller Nkechi Nnaji reports losing customers because her soft drinks stay warm. Electrician Ifeanyi Eze says there’s no work without power, so clients don’t call for maintenance. The situation in Enugu reflects wider frustration across Nigeria. Households and traders are calling on the Federal Government and power stakeholders to restore stable electricity and prevent further losses.

Have residents tried any petitions or town halls recently to demand a more reliable power supply?

I understand frustration, but demanding more protests alone won't fix the wiring issues. Maybe we need technical assessments too.

It's curious that the same grid keeps failing despite reported maintenance. Something still isn't adding up in this ongoing blackout saga.

Blaming the national grid alone misses how rampant energy waste and faulty wiring in local buildings worsen the blackout's impact.

Small businesses could share inverter costs or form cooperative fuel-buying groups to lower backup power expenses during these frequent outages.
