The Strength of a Steadfast Purpose
“Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.” In the days of Western cattle ranches, a little donkey was harnessed to a wild horse and set loose. The horse dragged the donkey miles across the range, tossing him around like a feed sack. Yet each time the donkey rose, he walked steadily back toward the ranch. Eventually, the exhausted horse could go no further and returned behind the donkey. The humble animal became the leader. What made the difference? A clear, unwavering purpose—to go home. Scripture calls us to the same resolve. Samuel warned Israel against chasing empty pursuits, Isaiah declared “I will not be ashamed,” and Paul urged believers to remain unshaken and productive in God’s work. When we fix our eyes on our goal, no trial can hold us back.
