UNIZIK Pre-Degree Centre Bolsters Community Ties, Vows to Raise Academic Standards

UNIZIK Pre-Degree Centre Bolsters Community Ties, Vows to Raise Academic Standards — 1 of 3
1 / 3

The Director of UNIZIK’s Pre-Degree Programme, Engr. Prof. Paul Okolie, highlights a strong partnership with the Mbaukwu community to ensure safety and smooth operations at the study centre. Under his leadership, no reports of student phone theft have been recorded. The centre now works closely with a community vigilance group alongside its own security team. With around 2,000 Pre-Degree and JUPEB students set to arrive in September, Prof. Okolie says this influx will boost the local economy. He also notes that many students have already scored above 300 in JAMB and must achieve at least 200 in Pre-Degree exams to qualify for UNIZIK admission. Recent approval to commence JUPEB courses, upgraded infrastructure, and improved lecturer welfare all aim to create a conducive learning environment and further strengthen academic performance.

It's impressive that no phone thefts have been reported so far, though community relations alone may not guarantee long-term security.

Claiming community goodwill alone can secure operations sounds optimistic; unexpected challenges might expose gaps in that approach.

Perhaps regular safety audits and joint security drills with local residents could help maintain the centre's spotless phone-theft record.
