Manchester United’s young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has credited manager Michael Carrick for earning him a place in England’s 26-man World Cup squad. Carrick was confirmed as United’s permanent head coach on a deal lasting until 2028 after guiding the team to a third-place Premier League finish and Champions League qualification during his interim spell. Speaking from England’s training camp in Florida, Mainoo said he was “very grateful” to Carrick for trusting him on the pitch. He added that without the manager’s faith, he might not have secured his spot in Qatar.
