Israel Suspends Chinese EVs Over Spy Fears

Israel’s Ministry of Defense has halted deliveries of Chinese electric cars to IDF officers amid concerns that embedded sensors and communication systems could leak sensitive data. Officials fear audio, video, geolocation and biometric information may be transmitted back to servers in China. Over 600 Chinese-made EVs, including MG ZS EV and Chery Tiggo 8 models, were already in use near the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Tel Aviv. New BYD Atto 3 vehicles failed security checks and were never deployed. To curb risks, the e-Call emergency feature was disabled on the received cars, but cybersecurity experts warn this measure is not enough. A founder of Israel’s national security agency’s cybersecurity unit has described these vehicles as potential mobile intelligence platforms.

It's notable that Israel stopped deliveries despite no public proof of data leaks, suggesting policy driven more by caution than confirmed incidents.

While I respect the security concern, halting every delivery might provoke diplomatic tensions without clear evidence of actual spying.

A reasonable approach might involve thorough third-party security audits before accepting those vehicles, ensuring both readiness and sensitive data protection.
