EBSU Cuts Campus Transport Fares to Ease Student Burden
Ebonyi State University has announced reduced transport fares for motorcycles, tricycles and buses within the campus community. The Dean of Student Affairs, in partnership with the Students’ Union Government, approved these rates after reviewing students’ complaints and economic realities. Under the new structure, motorcycle rides from the gate to university faculties will cost ₦200, while trips to Obodo are set at ₦300. Tricycle and bus routes between CAS, Presco, Ishieke and the Permanent Site now carry fixed fares ranging from ₦200 to ₦700. A joint task force of student representatives, transport operators and university security will monitor compliance and discipline any operator who overcharges. The university and the SUG will hold regular meetings to review fares in line with changing fuel prices and protect students from exploitation. This initiative aims to ensure students travel affordably without undermining fair compensation for transport providers.
