FG Plans Another Salary Increase for Nigerian Soldiers

FG Plans Another Salary Increase for Nigerian Soldiers

The Federal Government is working on another salary increase for members of the Armed Forces, Defence Minister Christopher Musa has said. He said President Bola Tinubu is expected to announce the new review soon. Musa said soldiers' pay was increased from about ₦49,000 to ₦100,000 roughly two years ago, following efforts he made while serving as Chief of Defence Staff. He said the government is seeking a further raise in recognition of troops' risks and sacrifices. The minister spoke in Abuja at an entrepreneurship workshop for widows and spouses of service personnel. He said improving the economic security of military families would help personnel focus on their duties in difficult operational environments. The workshop was organised by the Ministry of Defence and SMEDAN to equip participants with business and enterprise-management skills.

What would make this proposed review feel meaningful to serving soldiers beyond the headline figure?

Exactly. Any review should translate into real improvement for soldiers, not just a figure that sounds good in announcements.

An expected announcement is welcome, but people will likely wait for the actual figures and implementation details.

Government should clearly state the new pay structure, effective date, and how payments will reach every eligible service member.
