Rodri Open to Real Madrid Switch Despite Atletico Past

Manchester City midfielder Rodri says his Atletico Madrid background won’t stop him from joining Real Madrid. The 29-year-old Spain international, whose City contract runs until next summer, insists you “can’t turn down the best clubs in the world.” He has made 293 appearances for City since moving from Atletico in 2019 and has claimed 12 major trophies under Pep Guardiola. Rodri admits he will “sit down and talk” with City about his future but hopes to return to Spain one day. He pointed to players like Thibaut Courtois and Álvaro Morata who have represented both Madrid clubs over time. Fresh from winning the 2024 Ballon d’Or, Rodri is named in Spain’s squad for friendlies against Serbia and Egypt as he eyes a place in this summer’s World Cup in North America.

City contract runs only until next summer, yet this seems like a negotiating tactic rather than genuine Real Madrid interest.

Not sure he's really ready to swap two fierce Madrid rivals so smoothly after almost three hundred games for City.

If Rodri truly wants the world's best, his agents should focus on contract extension or negotiate a clear path before summer arrives.
