Nwala: FRSC Must Prioritise Safety, Not Cause Traffic Bottlenecks

High Chief Barr. Emeka Nwala has called out the Federal Road Safety Corps for blocking major routes during peak hours under the guise of enforcement. He warns that these tactics worsen congestion and push motorists into dangerous maneuvers, leading to avoidable accidents. Nwala urged the FRSC to return to its core mandate of promoting safe road use through education, speed enforcement, and curbing vehicle overloading. He also decried the slow response to crash scenes and the overlap of FRSC duties with other security agencies, which he says erodes public trust. He cautioned that failure to reform could prompt legislative review, including a possible merger with the police. Nwala appealed for a more humane, technology-driven approach backed by clear guidelines and public awareness campaigns to ensure the safety and convenience of all road users.

Agree safety must come first, but rigid checkpoints can just shift delays onto side streets.
