Parents, Are You Watching What Your Children Watch Online?
I recently visited a busy football viewing centre where many children aged six to twelve were gathered. At halftime, an adult scene flashed on the screen for a few seconds and the kids watched it, oblivious to what they had just seen. Today’s smartphones and internet bring pornography, cyberbullying, stalking, violent content, and unrealistic lifestyles straight into a child’s hand. Without supervision, these experiences can harm their development and self-image. We cannot rely solely on government regulations or apps to protect our children. Parents must guide, not control. Set up child-friendly accounts, install filters, respect program ratings, and replace some screen time with educational and value-adding shows. Most importantly, talk openly about sensitive topics and spend quality time together. Simple rules—no phones during meals or late at night—help build trust and keep young minds safe.
