Genevieve Nnaji’s Trailblazing Journey at TIFF, Cannes and Beyond
Genevieve Nnaji has become a global ambassador for Nigerian cinema. She remains the only Nollywood actress regularly honoured at the Toronto International Film Festival. In 2020, TIFF named her an official ambassador. Her directorial debut, Lionheart, premiered in TIFF’s Discovery section and later became Netflix’s first Nigerian original. She also served as executive producer for I Do Not Come to You By Chance in the festival’s Centrepiece programme. Beyond screenings, Nnaji has appeared on influential panels to reshape Hollywood’s view of Africa. She was honoured at Cannes and dazzled on the Red Sea festival red carpet. Today, she produces her own films through The Entertainment Network.
