Runway Closure at Benin Airport Forces United Nigeria Airlines to Cancel Flights

Runway Closure at Benin Airport Forces United Nigeria Airlines to Cancel Flights

United Nigeria Airlines has halted all operations to and from Benin Airport after the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria closed the runway. This followed a runway excursion involving an Enugu Air aircraft that veered off the tarmac during landing. The airline says services will stay suspended until aviation authorities complete safety checks and declare the runway safe. Affected passengers are urged to contact customer service for rebooking and alternative travel arrangements. United Nigeria Airlines apologised for the inconvenience and asked for travellers’ patience as recovery work and inspections continue. The carrier emphasised that passenger welfare remains its top priority. A runway excursion occurs when an aircraft leaves the designated runway during take-off or landing. Such incidents require temporary closures for recovery, facility inspections and safety assessments before flights can resume.

Yes, this closure disrupts travel for many. We need to check alternative airports or transport options soon.

It feels odd that a single excursion would force a full runway closure instead of targeted repairs.

I see the safety concern, but halting all operations seems overcautious when other airlines still use that runway.

Local travellers might consider chartering smaller aircraft or checking nearby airports until the runway reopens.
