Sen. Kawu Sumaila Convenes Kano South Lawmakers in Critical Abuja Meeting

On Monday, 30 March 2026, Kano South legislators met in Abuja under the leadership of Senator Kawu Sumaila. They described the gathering as a critical forum to assess their political future. The session brought together prominent House members Alhassan Doguwa, Kabiru Rurum, Abdulmumin Jibrin and Abdullahi Rogo. It followed their boycott of an enlarged meeting called by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Lawmakers voiced concern over perceived neglect of their region by the state government. They alleged key decisions affecting Kano South were made without proper consultation. Participants said they are engaging former lawmakers, party leaders, business figures and clerics to chart a new course. They may present proposals to the governor and have not ruled out changing party alignment if their demands are ignored.

Convening in Abuja instead of Kano makes the forum seem more like a staged political photo op than open discussion.

Calling the gathering 'critical' feels like spin before any concrete agenda or transparent goals were actually presented.

Constituents should follow up with their lawmakers for a clear roadmap on decisions made during that forum and expected outcomes.
