World Cup 2026 Day 10 Recap: Dutch Rout, Late German Winner, Curacao’s Heroic Draw, Japan’s Big Win

World Cup 2026 Day 10 Recap: Dutch Rout, Late German Winner, Curacao’s Heroic Draw, Japan’s Big Win

Day 10 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup served drama and heartbreak for African fans as four thrilling matches unfolded across North America. Netherlands thrashed Sweden 5-2 in Houston. Sunderland’s Brian Brobbey scored twice before Cody Gakpo added a brace. Anthony Elanga’s reply and Crysencio Summerville’s strike offered little consolation for the Swedes. In Toronto, Ivory Coast led Germany through Franck Kessie’s goal but succumbed to a stoppage-time winner from Denis Undav, who finished the day with a brace. Over in the next game, Curacao keeper Eloy Room made 15 saves to secure a 0-0 draw with Ecuador, earning his side their first-ever World Cup point. Tunisia’s struggles continued as Japan ran out 4-0 victors. Daichi Kamada’s early strike was followed by goals from Ayase Ueda and Junya Ito, capping an emphatic win for the Blue Samurai.

Which of the Day 10 results surprised you most: Netherlands' five goals, Germany's late winner, Curacao's draw, or Japan's big win?

That 5-2 rout of Sweden feels a bit overblown considering defensive lapses rather than pure attacking brilliance.

Calling Curacao's draw heroic feels a bit much when it simply ended all square.

Teams must tighten up on set pieces if they want to avoid late winner heartbreaks like Germany's victory.
