45 Years Later: Lagos Nurses of the 1980 Set Reunite to Honour Their Legacy
On Saturday, May 23, 2026, retired nurses of the Direct Entry 5, D.E.S. 1980 Set, gathered at De Meros Hotel in Lagos to mark 45 years of friendship and service. The reunion brought together committee members, guests and well-wishers in a warm atmosphere of gratitude and thanksgiving. In her opening remarks, committee President Mrs Toyin Odukoya celebrated the group’s unity and resilience. She praised members for sustaining their bond since nursing school. A moment of silence was also held to remember colleagues who have passed away, reminding everyone of life’s fragility and shared history. Represented by Dr Faleye, Chairman Dr Akinoso Adebayo reflected on the association’s journey. He thanked God for the nurses’ health and strength and prayed that they enjoy the fruits of their labour. The group’s history of charitable work was highlighted, from COVID-19 relief packs to donations for physically challenged children and local health centres. An award session recognised members for outstanding service to the association. Special guests included former First Lady of Lagos State Dame Abimbola Fashola, who added prestige to the celebration. Many attendees described the event as a tribute to survival, friendship and the enduring dignity of the nursing profession.
