Scott Allan Urges Celtic to Protect Iheanacho’s Fitness in Title Push

Scott Allan Urges Celtic to Protect Iheanacho’s Fitness in Title Push

Former Celtic midfielder Scott Allan has called on the club to prioritise Kelechi Iheanacho’s fitness as they chase the Scottish Premiership crown. Iheanacho stamped his return from injury with an 82nd-minute winner against Dundee at Dens Park on April 5, 2026. The goal rescued a 2-1 victory and kept Celtic firmly in the title race. Speaking on the BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast, Allan stressed that when fully fit the 29-year-old striker remains Celtic’s most natural and instinctive number nine. He urged the club’s medical and coaching staff to do all they can to keep Iheanacho available for the run-in.

Do you think focusing on Iheanacho's fitness will be the key factor in Celtic's title push this season?

Fitness helps, but focusing solely on Iheanacho might overlook Celtic's strong squad depth and tactical setup.

Prioritising one player's fitness sounds sensible, but I worry other squad members might get left behind in training schedules.

I get the point, but protecting Iheanacho too much could disrupt his match sharpness when crunch moments arrive.

Maybe rotating him after intense matches and integrating recovery sessions can help keep Iheanacho fresh for title-deciding clashes.
