Sheikh Gumi Insists No One Can Stop His Visits Across Nigeria
Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has defended his late-year visit to Ibadan amid claims he was promoting Northern ideologies in Oyo State. He clarified he was not invited by any South-West Muslim group but went as a representative of Northern Islamic scholars. His statement follows a viral video of an abduction victim in Oriire LGA, who refuted reports that kidnappers demanded Sharia law or a ₦1 billion ransom. The Muslim Rights Concern also dismissed the alleged Sharia demand as a fabrication by Islamophobic elements. Gumi warned that Islamophobia is influencing South-West politics and questioned why he was dragged into local controversies. He made these remarks after speaking at the Southern Nigerian Ulama Summit at the University of Ibadan.
