33 Items Banned at FIFA World Cup Venues – One Offense Carries a Jail Term

33 Items Banned at FIFA World Cup Venues – One Offense Carries a Jail Term

FIFA has updated its stadium security rules ahead of the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Fans will be stopped at entry points, and prohibited items will be confiscated. Some items carry criminal penalties under local laws. Common fan items such as beach umbrellas, folding chairs, inflatables, selfie sticks and oversized bags are all banned. Electronic smoking devices are also forbidden, with Mexican authorities applying stricter vaping rules that could lead to fines or jail time for multiple devices. Pyrotechnics, noise-makers (vuvuzelas, air horns, whistles) and outside food or drinks are likewise prohibited. Only clear bags or small clutches and a single empty plastic bottle are permitted. The full code lists 33 categories, including weapons, explosives, flammable substances, remote-controlled devices, drones, professional recording gear and other potential hazards.

Which banned items do you think fans will forget most often when entering World Cup venues?

You're right, I bet most fans totally forget they can't bring bottles or weird gadgets inside, ehn.

It's surprising that everyday objects like beach umbrellas and power banks are listed among items that could land you in jail.

That does sound a bit extreme—most venues would likely just confiscate those items, not jail you.

I'm not convinced these strict bans will improve stadium safety; they could just create more hassle and longer lines at entry points.

Fans should double check their bags against the official prohibited list before leaving home to avoid confiscation or possible legal trouble at the gates.
