Five Met Police Officers Suspended After Firearms Found Outside London Mayor’s Home

Five Met Police Officers Suspended After Firearms Found Outside London Mayor’s Home

Five Metropolitan Police officers have been suspended after a bag containing service firearms and a Taser was discovered outside the south London residence of Mayor Sadiq Khan. The bag held an MP5 semi-automatic carbine, a Glock pistol, a Taser and ammunition. A member of the public, Jordan Griffiths, found the abandoned weapons on the street. He took photos as proof, alerted police and watched officers arrive within minutes to secure the items. The Metropolitan Police have launched an internal review. A spokesperson said the bag was likely misplaced by on-duty protection officers. The incident is being referred to the force’s Professional Standards Directorate. Authorities described the case as serious. The five officers remain off duty pending a full investigation to ensure such an error cannot recur.

How could such sensitive weapons end up outside the Mayor's home without anyone noticing sooner?

How long did those weapons go unnoticed near the mayor's official residence?

I get your concern, but it's hard to believe five officers simply missed that. Maybe deeper procedural gaps are to blame.

It's alarming that multiple armed officers can misplace service firearms and a Taser so casually.

We shouldn't jump to conclusions before internal investigations reveal whether this was negligence or deliberate misconduct.

Implementing strict checklists and double-verification protocols could help prevent service weapons from being misplaced again.
