Air France Flight Diverted to Canada After US Denies Entry Over Ebola Fears
An Air France flight bound for Detroit was rerouted to Montreal after US officials blocked its entry over Ebola concerns. US Customs and Border Protection said a passenger from the Democratic Republic of Congo was mistakenly allowed to board despite travel restrictions tied to the ongoing outbreak in Central Africa. To comply with US entry rules, Flight AF378 landed in Canada instead of Detroit. Air France confirmed the diversion at the request of American authorities and stressed there was no medical emergency on board. The carrier noted it adheres to all health protocols set by the countries it serves. New screening and restricted-entry measures by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Homeland Security now apply to passengers from Ebola-affected regions, including the DRC, Uganda and South Sudan.
