Nigeria Works for the Rich, but Not for Everyone
Many successful Nigerians assume the country works well for everyone. They can afford high fuel prices without worrying because money shields them from hardship. Fela called this mindset “Ikoyi Blindness” — a refusal to acknowledge national problems when they don’t affect you directly. As long as you have drivers, housemaids, and security staff, criticism of Nigeria’s struggles seems irrelevant. Meanwhile, ordinary citizens face real struggles with rising living costs. Elite disdain for protests and dissent only deepens the divide between privilege and reality.
