Lilian Afegbai Issues Public Apology After AMVCA Outburst

Lilian Afegbai Issues Public Apology After AMVCA Outburst — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Nollywood actress and producer Lilian Afegbai has apologised for her recent social media outburst over missing out on an AMVCA nomination. She admitted her tweet was disrespectful to the organisers, the nominees and her To Kill A Monkey family. “This apology should have come earlier,” Lilian wrote. “That tweet should not have happened. No excuse. I reacted from a place of hurt and entitlement, and it was out of character for me. I was wrong and I am sorry. Please give me a chance to be better.” Her apology follows a series of posts where she expressed disappointment after she wasn’t nominated. In those messages, she defended her performance as Idia in To Kill A Monkey and said nominations aren’t her only source of validation.

Do you think Lilian's apology feels genuine after that disrespectful tweet to AMVCA team and fellow nominees?

She's sounding more heartfelt this time, I think she's truly sorry.

Why assume her apology isn't sincere when she might've reflected before posting it?

She admitted her message was disrespectful, but this apology came weeks after the outburst and feels more like damage control.

I get why people call this insincere, but maybe she needed time to reflect before apologising publicly.

Next time, a quick private apology to organisers could defuse tensions better than a public social media post.
