Aaron Ramsey Announces Retirement After 20-Year Football Career
Aaron Ramsey has confirmed his retirement from professional football, bringing a 20-year career to a close. The 35-year-old midfielder made over 250 Premier League appearances for Arsenal and scored 21 goals in 86 matches for Wales. Ramsey broke through at Cardiff City in 2007 before joining Arsenal for just under £5m. He went on to make 369 appearances for the Gunners, netting 64 goals, winning three FA Cups and twice being named the club’s Player of the Year. After spells with Juventus, Rangers and a return to Cardiff, Ramsey became a free agent in October. In an Instagram post, he described his decision as “not easy” and thanked Wales, his clubs, managers, staff and family for their support. He departs the game with honours in England, Italy and Scotland, and with the distinction of helping Wales reach their first World Cup since 1958.
