Ex-Nebraska Assistant Coach Admits Sexual Relationship with Former Player Amid Lawsuit

Ex-Nebraska Assistant Coach Admits Sexual Relationship with Former Player Amid Lawsuit

A former Nebraska women’s basketball assistant coach has acknowledged a sexual relationship with a player before she was dismissed in 2022. Court filings in a civil suit filed by ex-player Ashley Scoggin allege that coach Chuck Love groomed her during the 2021–22 season and that university officials mishandled her complaint. Scoggin’s lawsuit names Love, head coach Amy Williams, the Board of Regents, and former athletic director Trev Alberts. She claims retaliation fears and seeks damages. Love initially denied any sexual relationship but admitted it at a February 2026 deposition. The filing also accuses university leaders of lacking policies to prevent staff-player relationships. Nebraska suspended Love with pay in February 2022; he resigned three months later. Scoggin later transferred to UNLV following her dismissal.

It seems unfair to blame the entire program without knowing exactly what the university was told at each stage.
