Should I Charge My Sister for Last-Minute Wedding Cake and Makeup?

I run a successful cake and makeup business and expected my sister to trust me with her wedding. She hired inexperienced vendors instead and ran into problems. When my close friend got engaged, I agreed to handle her cake and makeup over the weekend. I asked my sister to watch my kids, but she refused, calling them “too much work,” even though her wedding was still two weeks away. Three days before her big day, my sister asked me to step in at the last minute. I agreed but said she’d have to pay my standard fee plus an express booking charge. Now she and my parents think I’m being unfair. Am I wrong for expecting payment for my skills and time?

Has anyone charged a sibling for last-minute wedding cake and makeup after they skipped your services in the first place?

That sounds fair; you put in time and deserve payment, even from family.

It seems odd that she ignored your proven business, then turned back at the eleventh hour expecting free or discounted work.

Asking to waive your rates after she chose other vendors feels a bit unfair given your expertise and time constraints.

Set a clear weekend rush rate for emergency cake and makeup services, and share it with every client, including family.
