High Court Fixes April 14 Hearing for Nafiu Bala’s Suit Against David Mark-Led ADC
A federal high court in Abuja has scheduled April 14 to hear a suit filed by Nafiu Bala challenging David Mark’s leadership of the African Democratic Congress. Bala argues he never resigned as national vice-chairman and should have taken over after founder Ralph Nwosu’s exit. His suit names the ADC, Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, INEC and Nwosu as defendants and seeks to bar the Mark faction from acting as national officers. He is asking the court to restrain INEC from recognising Mark-led executives and to compel the commission to recognise him as acting national chairman. Bala also wants the party barred from holding any meetings or conventions until the case is resolved. In turn, the Mark faction has filed motions to restore its recognition and challenged the court’s jurisdiction. Earlier, the court of appeal dismissed Mark’s appeal and ordered both sides to maintain the status quo pending the outcome.
