Can Men and Women Truly Be Just Friends Without Romance?

I genuinely enjoy being friends with guys and listening to their gists. I often find their company more relaxed than conversations about hair, makeup, and other things I consider superficial. When a guy asks for my number, I am open to friendship. I can even pay for our hangouts myself, and I make it clear that I do not expect anything romantic. I am also fine if he is dating someone else, as long as we remain good friends. But once I say I only want friendship, many of them begin to avoid me and stop taking my calls. It makes me wonder: can a guy and a girl truly be close friends without romance becoming an issue? I simply want genuine friendship and someone to keep me company.

When you share numbers or pay for a hangout, how do you make your friendship-only intention clear from the beginning?

Exactly, being upfront early helps both people feel respected and prevents mixed signals later.

It sounds like you value relaxed conversation and genuine companionship, not the usual assumptions people attach to male-female friendships.

Maybe, but friendship can still become complicated when feelings or expectations quietly change over time.

Friendship is possible, but being open to hangouts does not mean every man asking for your number wants only friendship.

State your boundaries early, keep plans straightforward, and notice whether their actions still respect friendship after you decline anything romantic.
