1 / 2

Three adults died when a Piper PA-28 taking off from New Jersey crashed into a residential park in Bowie, Maryland, shortly before midnight on Sunday. The single-engine plane, reportedly on a training flight from Ocean City, New Jersey, to Montgomery County Airport, plummeted into a wooded area near homes, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and Maryland State Police. Emergency crews were alerted late at night but could not reach the wreckage until around 3:45 a.m. Officials believe the aircraft belongs to a local flight school. Debris was scattered near a playground less than 20 miles from Washington, DC. The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
