Barrister Olusegun Olawoyin’s Rise in Offa Politics and Kwara State Leadership
Barrister Olusegun Olawoyin’s entry into partisan politics was the result of careful observation and consultation within his family’s political tradition. He first aligned with the Alliance for Democracy before moving to the All Peoples Party and later the Peoples Democratic Party under the Saraki political structure. He served as Vice Chairman of Offa Local Government from 2004 to 2005, overseeing the finance portfolio and implementing internal reforms. In 2006, he was appointed Commissioner for Environment and Tourism in Kwara State, where he led infrastructure projects and ministry coordination until mid-2007. Ahead of the 2007 elections, Olawoyin strengthened the PDP’s structure in Offa through grassroots mobilisation and community engagement. He chaired the Transition Implementation Committee before winning the Offa Local Government chairmanship in November 2007 and assuming office later that month.
