Early Morning Blaze at Kano Wood Market Destroys Millions in Goods, Eight Vehicles
A fire broke out on Monday, April 27 at the Maganda Road wood market in Kano State, destroying goods worth millions of naira and at least eight vehicles. The Kano State Fire Service received a distress call at about 6:05 a.m. and quickly deployed units to bring the blaze under control. Eyewitnesses said the fire began around 3:00 a.m., before traders arrived, and spread from the wood section to a nearby mechanic workshop and adjoining shops. Trader Nura Umar said they tried to fight the flames but were overwhelmed until firefighters arrived. Engineer Abdulwahab Ilori reported losing heavy welding and drilling equipment and a newly delivered vehicle valued at about ₦14 million. The fire service is still assessing the full extent of the damage and investigating the cause. No lives were lost in the incident.
