Army Chief Appeals to Southeast Youth to Enlist at New Training Depot

Army Chief Appeals to Southeast Youth to Enlist at New Training Depot

During the passing out parade of 2,989 fresh recruits at the new Amasiri-Edda training depot in Ebonyi, Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu appealed to leaders, parents and youths in the Southeast to fill the region’s recruitment quota. He noted that enlistment from the zone remains below capacity and urged communities to see the depot as their own. Shaibu described military service as an honorable path of patriotism and leadership. He called on community elders to encourage young men and women to step forward and contribute to national defence. He also reminded new soldiers that Nigeria’s security challenges—from insurgency to organised crime—demand sacrifice and commitment. He warned against social media breaches of operational information, stressing that violations could lead to disciplinary action. In his address, the state governor pledged ongoing support for the army’s presence in Ebonyi, promising a peaceful environment for training and operations.
