Under the Influence of the Holy Spirit: June 16 Devotional

Today’s devotional reflects on Ephesians 5:18 and Romans 8:14, which compare the Holy Spirit to wine. This analogy shows how the Spirit controls our thoughts, speech, and actions when we are filled with Him. Spiritual leading requires spiritual fullness. A believer cannot stay consistently guided by God while remaining empty. When the Holy Spirit fills us, our senses become spirit-enhanced, we discern beyond the natural, and our thoughts align with God’s. Staying under the Spirit’s influence is a daily process of prayer, worship, and meditating on God’s Word. The more we seek fullness, the clearer God’s voice becomes amid life’s distractions. Reflect on these questions: Am I living under the Spirit’s influence every day? Do my choices reflect spiritual sensitivity? Do I make time for prayer and Scripture? Let us pray for fresh filling and yield ourselves to God’s leading. Amen.

Equating spiritual influence with wine could risk trivializing holiness, making it seem like a chemical reaction rather than a relational journey.
