Lukaku Urges Calm After Belgium’s Goalless Draw with Iran at World Cup 2026

Lukaku Urges Calm After Belgium’s Goalless Draw with Iran at World Cup 2026

Belgium were held to a 0-0 draw by Iran in their second Group G match at the World Cup 2026. Rudi Garcia’s side dominated possession, registering 23 shots and nearly 70% ball control, but could not break down Iran’s defence. Romelu Lukaku voiced his disappointment but stressed the need for composure. “We have to stay with the emotions, stay calm and keep our composure. That is something we have to improve on,” he said in a post-match interview. With one game left against New Zealand, Belgium must win to stay in contention for the Round of 32. Lukaku called for “desire and commitment to the cause” as the Red Devils chase their first victory of the tournament.

They dominated possession and clocked 23 shots, yet couldn't convert a single chance. That defensive resilience from Iran really paid off.

True, controlling the ball and firing so many shots but no goals. Iran's back line was rock solid.

Calm words are nice, but lectures won't change the finishing woes. Belgium should be pressing hard, not just talking about composure.

For a stronger showing next match, Belgium must finish more clinical chances. Focus training on quick transitions and sharper shooting drills.
