1 / 2

Nollywood veteran Chiwetalu Agu has paid tribute to his colleague Alex Ekubo following the actor’s passing at 40. In an emotional video shared on social media, Agu recalled Ekubo’s passion, sacrifice and dedication to his craft. He lamented the loss of such a promising storyteller, saying it “hurts to see a light like yours go out so soon.” Alex Ekubo passed away on May 11 at Evercare Hospital after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer. His burial on June 18 was marked by tears and prayers from family, friends and fans. Agu’s heartfelt message comes months after he himself put to rest rumours about his health, vowing to live fully until his time comes.

I don't think we needed to call him a 'promising storyteller' when he already delivered standout performances for years.

Maybe the industry should set up an annual mentorship fund in his memory to support young actors following Ekubo's dedication.
