FirstHoldCo Profit Surges 83.5% in H1 2026, ROE Rockets to 37.7%

FirstHoldCo Plc posted record H1 2026 results with profit before tax leaping 83.5% to ₦653.5bn and net profit rising 81.6% to ₦526.1bn year-on-year. Gross earnings grew 17% to ₦1.93trn while operating income climbed 25.8% to ₦1.38trn. The group’s pre-tax return on equity hit 37.7% and return on assets rose to 3.63%. Improved asset quality cut impairment charges by 37.3%, and the balance sheet strengthened with total assets at ₦30.64trn and customer deposits at ₦21.93trn. FirstHoldCo restored its capital adequacy ratio to 16.7% ahead of schedule, with liquidity at 52.2%. Non-interest income reached ₦497.1bn, driven by electronic banking, trade services, and other transaction-led businesses. On the Nigerian Exchange, FirstHoldCo equity has delivered over 100% year-to-date gains. With annualised earnings per share at ₦23.14, a full-year dividend of ₦5–10 per share is highly plausible under traditional payout models.

Gross earnings grew 17%, yet operating income rose 25.8%. Something about expense control or revenue mix might need closer scrutiny.
