Building Nigeria’s Talent Pipeline: A Response to Moniepoint’s CEO
There’s a growing misconception that Nigeria lacks world-class talent. In reality, companies and the state have failed to build the systems that train, pay and promote skilled workers. Moniepoint’s CEO recently noted difficulty filling 500 roles to global standards. While our education output has gaps, the bigger issue lies in unrealistic job adverts, poor internships, low pay and a lack of career development. Leading organisations recruit for potential and invest in training. Nigeria needs similar structures: paid apprenticeships, graduate fellowships, mid-career conversions and transparent salaries. Government and employers should collaborate to publish pay ranges and establish talent development policies. The future of Nigerian work depends on building talent from the ground up, not simply expecting ready-made professionals.
